“Voices of the Future” – ILF (Indigenous Literacy Foundation)

The extraordinary work that the Indigenous Literacy Foundation has been doing since 2010, is inspiring and critical in providing remote Indigenous Australian Communities with books and literacy programs to celebrate the importance and joy of reading. We were so excited to be invited to produce this first major piece to tell ILF’s story of the importance of kids learning to read with books they can see themselves reflected in. Books in their language, about their lives, and amazingly, books created by the communities and children themselves. Working with Indigenous filmmaker and photographer Wayne Quilliam, we compiled this story from two shoots on country, one in the magnificient Tiwi Islands and the second in the Kimberly, in Bidyadanga. Bringing the exquisite footage back to our edit room we worked closely with ILF to bring to life the voices, faces and stories of the children and communities who are engaged with and enjoying the books and work ILF is collaborating to create on the ground side by side with communities. This was a very special story for us to work on.
